1.
Right now I can see your light, twisting and searing time, As it pours from your laughs to ward away a blight, And falls so deep within my wounded mind, Hypnotize me with your fucking endless eyes, A look so rich I feel i'm gonna die, tonight.
2.
The sun sweats down my back, a slaughter plays inside, rivers of blood run through, my fucking head tonight. I'm a serial killer, but I'm never gonna hurt anyone, I don't want you to die. It's an indisputable fact, I'm never gonna hurt anyone, I said I don't want you to die. The clouds piss down my neck, A slaughter plays inside, ravines of limbs run through my fucking head tonight. I'm a serial killer, but I'm never gonna hurt anyone, I don't want you to die. It's an indisputable fact, I'm never gonna hurt anyone, I said I don't want you to die.
3.
What's that old headache? Has it been enough? Watch that old headache! Am I gonna stop? Ten pound pulsing aches in my brain, I can't see you now, through this pain. What's that old headache? Are your legs still stumbling? Watch that old headache! Is the world still tumbling? I have to ingest drugs tonight, To supress my cognizance, alright? What's that old headache? Are your legs still stumbling? Watch that old headache! Is the world still tumbling? What's that old headache? Where'd the blood come from? Has it got you grovelling?
4.
Fifty-One 01:57
I smile as he rips my sweater, it makes my pulse run better, in an empty parking lot, He puts his hands around my throat, I reach into my pocket, As his grasp stifles breath, His eyes they well with glee, Extracting carbon steel, I almost cannot feel, As violence conquers me, I stab at his reality! Whoa oh! I butcher his reality! Whoa oh! I slash up his reality! Whoa oh!
5.
Life is just a run of flashing lights, Dilated to resemble decayed time, a spiralled parlor trick rushing by, When you perceive action through your eyes, it's just your brain crawling to survive, We cannot understand, a cosmos without end.
6.
Take yourself out nightly, fill your eyes up with dreams, rot on a cushion of foam, ride the waves of defatted cream tonight.
7.
Palindrome 02:49
And just like that my heart stops, I see you, see you, whoa oh! And just like that my heart floods, I see you, see you, Oh oh! We've known each other for so long, But I've never met you. We've known each other for so long, And I've never met you. I feel your love for me is real, whoa oh! I see your love for me is true, whoa oh!
8.
Stare across the stripmall, it used to be a baseball field, foggy outlines run the bases, it used to be a baseball field, Whoa oh oh! A regretful old man lost all my friends, a regretful old man couldn’t make amends, There's no one left, sunshine on an empty flask, I gotta get up and put on a vacant mask. I gotta get up...
9.
I hit the dirt rushing with you, We're gonna laugh right through, Timelines seemingly altered true, Whoa oh! I hit the dirt rushing with you, We're gonna laugh right through, Schwarzschild wormholes exist and thwart our doom, We hit the glass shifting it through, They gotta suffer you, We hit the glass shifting it through, They gotta suffer you, Force time into a conjured truth, Whoa oh! Melt walls down with infernal thoughts, Won't lose. They've underestimated our gifts, Their molecules will shift, They've underestimated our gifts, Their molecules will shift, Pyrokinetic deaths for tyrant brutes. Whoa oh!
10.
They called again, In the middle of the night, Silhouettes in cars, Almost outta my sight, I've seen human in jackets and gloves Go through my garbage in a rainstorm Do you want a lift? Where you heading to? I got a letter like that, Who the fuck are you? A sickening dread twists my guts, We aren’t leaving this building alive, I'm afraid to say, What I feel is true, Did any of them recognize you? A sickening dread twists my guts, We aren’t leaving this building alive, One of us dies first, One of us goes through.
11.
The Big Bet 02:23
Did ya catch that swing? Did ya see her just bash Billy's face in? How much did you just cough up? Are ya sweatin' now? You afraid this broad is tougher than him? How much did you just cough up? Did ya see her face? Does it stir up memories in your mind? How much did you just cough up? I am not her boss. She's the one that sent the invitation. Did you see her eyes? She's been waiting 15 years to find you. You don't remember do you? That's what she figured Inhuman patience she grew into You don't remember.

about

Atlanta musician and film composer Ian Deaton returns with his fourth cassette MOON HOWLER, inspired in equal parts by the Ramones and the Spits as well as early ‘80s Los Angeles new wave bands like Missing Persons and Berlin. Moon Howler, named after the Ramones 1984 synth-pop single “Howling At The Moon,” aims to convey a similar semi-futuristic sound and atmosphere of potentially naive optimism in the face of dystopia. Something to blast in a room and dance like your life depends on it in order to stay sane.

Inspired by Deaton’s earliest memories of genre films and radio pop, Moon Howler was written on a collection of cheap analog, FM and sample based synthesizers and drum machines. Each instrument is viewed as a non-human member of the “band” with Deaton functioning solely as the singer live. Moon Howler, under the production guidance of engineer Thomas Barnwell (Picture One, Narcolepsy), attempts to marry the rawness of DIY synth-punk records by the Units and Kaos with the slick studio sounds of legendary producer Mike Howlett (Flock of Seagulls, OMD, Berlin).

Deaton cut his artistic teeth starting in the late ‘90s playing guitar for avant-garde punk band Blame Game and did stints in noise-rock and grindcore bands like Dasher, God’s Balls, U.S. Drag and Knaves Grave among others. He’s also worked as an actor, camera person, art director and composer (with Thomas Barnwell) on films like The Arbalest (2016), The Theta Girl (2017) and Poor Jane (2018). He has released three previous cassettes:
1. Atlanta Crime Wave, a fake police film soundtrack.
2. Dekalb Time-Slip, a “time-metal” album inspired by the work of Philip K. Dick, Napalm Death and John Carpenter.
3. Glamour Profession, a synth-punk album inspired by the work of Dario Argento, The Screamers and Japanese Hardcore band Gauze and succinctly described as “This sounds like Depeche mode with Blastbeat,” by a youtube commenter.

Moon Howler began almost a decade ago when MC/Producer Negashi Armada asked Deaton to make him a mixtape similar to the sound of “Synthicide” by the band SSQ. Wanting to keep the pace of the tape similar to “Synthicide” Deaton scoured records by popular new-wave and synth-punk bands and pulled only the fastest songs he could find. Stitching together a full album's worth of “fast-wave” material was not only a blast to make but inspired a feverish and cathartic dance session whenever the tape was played for friends.

“My need to create something as half as good as old synth-pop mixtapes and bring out similar emotions in myself and my friends are why I made Moon Howler. Dance and make art like your life depends on it.”
